Hello everyone! My name is Callie, and however you found your way to this page, I’d like to welcome you here.
During the COVID-19 quarantine, I got inspired to start a podcast. There was a kind of podcast I wanted to listen to – one for people like me, young and curious and also completely aware of the fact that I don’t know anything. I was dismayed to find that there wasn’t a podcast that was quite what I was looking for. So, I decided to start my own. The first thing I realized I didn’t know anything about was starting a podcast. So, I took to research. I learned about naming, about art, about music. I learned about podcast hosts, which hold the actual physical data of your podcast and send it to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. I learned about microphones, recording software, editing software, everything you could think of.
The more I learned, the more discouraged I got. It all looked so complicated! More importantly, it all looked expensive. And as much as I learned, I didn’t even know where to start!
Eventually, I realized that it didn’t matter. Did my content need to be perfect? Who was it really for? It was for me! So no, it didn’t have to be perfect. It didn’t even have to be good! I just had to like making it, and I was good to go.
So what did I do? I took that $100 and bought a nice little microphone – the Blue Yeti Nano, if anyone’s interested – got an account on a free podcast host, and got to work! I went through a bunch of different names before settling on Fast Facts for Gen Z. I made a bunch of versions of my cover art, and maybe someday I’ll post the scrapped versions. My recordings are very bare-bones. I don’t have any music, and I hardly edit at all. Most of my episodes are done in a single take, unless I want to record a cold open or reuse an intro or outro. And I think it’s great!
The cover art I made and liked the best – it appears on every streaming platform! This blog is to post the transcriptions of my episodes, for those who may want to read or skim, but don’t like podcasts or don’t particularly want to listen to 18 minutes of me talking in their ears. I get it! No pressure! Fast Facts for Gen Z is just a fancy name for the fact that I’m having a great time, and I’m glad to have you here with me. New episodes come out on Thursdays, but I’ll be updating more often with the transcripts of episodes that have already been released. Much love!
